BlueCAT™ SSI - Technology

Nett Technologies’ BlueCAT™ Small Spark Ignition (SSI) engine emission control system utilizes the same technology which has been verified and proven by California Air Resources Board (CARB) in 1000's of installations on Large Spark Ignition (LSI) engines. It has been customized to suit small engine applications. The BlueCAT™ SSI emission control system is designed to operate on gasoline and gaseous (LPG & CNG) fueled SSI engines to provide high-performance reductions in all major exhaust gas emissions. Carbon Monoxide (CO) is reduced by up to 98%, Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) and Hydrocarbons (HC) by up to 95%. Great at reducing deadly indoor and outdoor emissions, the BlueCAT™ SSI system is ideal for use on lawn mower, tiller, commercial/garden, pressure washer, construction/industrial, generator, water pump, agricultural and forestry engine applications.

The BlueCAT™ SSI is compatible with an A/F controller (optional) to maximize the emission reduction in gaseous (LPG & CNG) fueled engines. Using ­field tested CARB veri­fied technology for LSI, the BlueCAT™ SSI engine three-way catalyst is the perfect emission control solution to your small engine.

BlueCAT™ SSI - Performance

In Nett Technologies' BlueCAT™ SSI 3-way catalyst, reactions between Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbons (HC), and Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) result in the simultaneous removal of all three major exhaust pollutants. One of the fundamental chemical reactions occurring in the catalyst can be written as follows:

CO + NO = CO2 + 1/2 N2

Concentrations of pollutants in the exhaust gas depend on the fuel mixture composition. At lean fuel mixtures the exhaust gases contain little Carbon Monoxide (CO) or Hydrocarbons (HC) but high concentrations of Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). Rich mixtures produce high concentrations of CO and HC with little NOx. In order to achieve high simultaneous conversions of CO and NOx, their concentrations in the exhaust must be in stoichiometric proportion, as illustrated by the above equation. If the air-to-fuel mixture is not stoichiometric, conversion of either NOx or CO will deteriorate, as shown in the diagram below.

CO emissions are typically reduced by over 98%. HC are reduced by 95%. The characteristic smell of propane exhaust is virtually eliminated. Over 95% reduction of NOx is achieved when Nett's BlueCAT™100 air/fuel ratio controller is used.

BlueCAT™ SSI - Design Options

Nett Technologies’ BlueCAT™ SSI engine emission control system is a direct-fit replacement for OEM designed muffler simplifying installation and saving time. The emission control catalyst is built into the BlueCAT™ SSI muffler to match the same OEM envelope for size, sound attenuation, back pressure characteristics with addition of superior emissions performance. Direct-­fit designs are available for most Honda, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Kawasaki and Subaru engines with customized designs available upon request.
